About
Mishka Hoosen is a writer and researcher currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. They graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in the US and received a Masters in Creative Writing from Rhodes University in South Africa. Their short stories have appeared in anthologies by Short Sharp Stories and Short Story Day Africa, and their writing has appeared in Catapult, Bare Fiction, New Coin, The Missing Slate, Hunger Mountain, Rolling Stone South Africa, the Ploughshares blog, Plume, Illuminations, and more. They are the author of the chapbook, Road Trip with James Dean (Flomotion, 2011), and the novel, Call it a difficult night (Deep South Books, 2015). Their writing has taken them to Ireland to perform poetry and to France for research on a book on the cultural history of perfume and desire. They currently lecture part-time and work as the perfume columnist for The Attic on Eighth. Their work deals with the themes of scent, madness, and the body.
